Training & Certification Course (TCC)

Trauma-Informed Nonviolent Childraising
Training & Certification Course (TCC)

Our Trauma-Informed Nonviolent Child Raising Training and Certification Course (TCC) provides participants with an in-depth training in the revised version of the Echo parenting curriculum, which reflects an attachment-based, nonviolent approach to child raising that is rooted in an understanding of trauma. The two-part course comprises a 6-day theoretical overview, followed by a practicum. Upon successful completion of the practicum, participants will be certified as an Echo Parent Educator.

Part One:
Theoretical Overview of Trauma-Informed, Nonviolent Child Raising

Dates: October – December 2018

Requirements: Participants will attend the recently revised 10-week Saturday parenting class series starting October 6th, in addition to a 6-day (Sunday) intensive course of study led by James Bigelow, senior Echo trainer.

Content: Participants will review the principles and practice of trauma-informed, nonviolent child raising as well as the research that informs it. In an alive, creative, and dynamic learning environment participants will be immersed in the philosophical underpinnings and pedagogical framework for teaching parent education in multiple settings.

Part Two:
Practicum (Certification)

Dates: January – March 2019

Requirements: Participants who have completed the first part of TCC and wish to become certified in the Echo trauma-informed, nonviolent parenting curriculum will convene a group and teach a mini (5-class) version of the curriculum under the supervision of Echo staff. Participation in the practicum does not guarantee certification. Certification will be determined on an individual basis during the practicum.

Content: Echo staff will conduct coaching calls and a site visit to provide feedback and support to facilitate development of skills. Participants will reconvene to debrief as a group.

Application Period: June 1 – July 31, 2018

Acceptance into TCC is based on a completed application plus an in-person interview with Echo staff.
Interviews will be held in August and notification of acceptance into TCC will go out August 31st.
There will be a waitlist if spots become available. Waitlist notifications will be made on September 10th.
