Parenting Classes
Parenting Classes are a cross section of the community; mutli-racial, multi-ethnic, encompassing a wide variety of social-economic circumstance. Participants seek Echo Parenting & Education for a variety of reasons; because they crossed the line with a child, they are afraid of doing so, the principles of a new paradigm appeal to them or they are court ordered.
Echo Parenting & Education teaches nonviolent parenting Philosophy and Practice on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings in Echo Park. Classes are held in both Spanish and English. Each class cycle is ten weeks long and held on an ongoing basis. Currently for Saturday English classes participants must be enrolled by the 2nd week of class. For the Saturday Spanish class and all of our Tuesday classes participants may begin at any point during the ten-week cycle and return for continued support throughout. We also offer a Parent Support group, for those that have completed any of our ten week classes, that offers the opportunity to build on what was learned, problem solve and get empathy for our work as parents.
Discussion groups, theory, role-playing and specific problem solving and topics such as empathy and healing are part of the curriculum. The class gives adults a framework to think about their actions as parents and discover what children truly need to thrive as healthy human beings. Together they learn methods that teach them to create the best possible connection with children, emphasizing respect for the life force of the child. They learn to become emotional coaches to their children; building unconditional acceptance, affection, appreciation, autonomy and attention. For most adults, it is a life changing experience.
Child Care is provided during class hours. Our caretakers are an integral part of our program, trained in the nonviolent teachings and support both parents and children. Echo Parenting & Education Child Care is an opportunity to see our Philosophy and Practice in action.
